There are three Melody Bennetts in Los Angeles. One is a professional photographer. One is a professional weight lifter. I’m the other one.
Sometimes, I cross paths with the weight lifter because we go to the same place to get our body mass index tested. She goes (I imagine) to see if she’s increased the muscle mass in her left gluteus medius. I go to see if I’m still 52% body fat. I feel like we’re soul sisters. The photographer is sitting on the melodybennett.com url and it would be super nice if she would turn that over. But, that’s my only beef with her.
What else?
I’m a writer, lawyer, adventurer, and lifelong “quiet” person. I was probably dragged to the event you see in the picture above and promised we’d just be meeting “a few friends.”
The focus of this site is on navigating an extroverted world from a deeply introverted prospective. For me, that has meant a lot of experimentation and adventure on the way to building a joyous, hilarious (and quiet) life.
Urban Introvert is part storytelling, part instructive, part personal experiment. If you are interested in the following, and in having some fun trying to figure out a better way, you are in the right place.
- Making (and keeping) friends
- Dating and relationships
- Work life
- Energy management
- Quiet adventures
- Self care
- All the super fun things that fall under the umbrella of introversion (high sensitivity, trouble focusing, overwhelm, avoidant behavior, lack of energy, someone asking about your day the second you walk in the door)
- Autism, ADD/ADHD, High Sensitivity, or Sensory issues (not always linked with introversion but frequently co-mingled)
- Things that may appear to have nothing to do with introversion but definitely DO (decluttering, eating well, traveling, productivity, creating cat memes and finding a good bar to read in)
- Really anything else because we are all people here, not just introverts, so it’s all up for grabs. Except nightclub reviews. I definitely don’t do those.
Have any extroverted friends who don’t understand you? Send them over here! Don’t let anyone tell you there’s something wrong with you. It’s bullshit. Unfortunately, we live in a loud, gregarious society and are frequently misunderstood. Don’t feel bad. We quiet folk have literally been waging this battle for ages.
I’m glad you’re here! Besides the articles on this site, the primary place that I share is through my newsletter, where all the super secret good stuff happens, along with important updates and announcements. I’ll take excellent care of your email address and never invite you to parties or make you talk on the phone. Pinky swear.
